The Independence Memorial Hall is a national monument in Colombo, established for the commemoration of the independence of Sri Lanka from British rule. Construction of the hall began in the year 1949 and was completed in 1953. This location is a lovely place to wind down and spend time in tranquillity, reflecting on the historical significance of the landmark.




The national museum of Colombo is the largest museum of Sri Lanka and is another must visit for travellers. The museum contains many significant artefacts and collections of much importance to Sri Lanka such as the throne and crown of the Kandyan monarchs. The museum was founded in the year 1877 by Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha and was originally known as ‘The Colombo Museum’.




The Kalutara Bodhiya is an ancient Bo tree that has been identified as the oldest living human-planted tree in the world, dating back to the 2nd century BC. Buddhist from all over the world visit the tree as it is said that underneath it is where Buddha attained enlightenment. The tree is situated on the Galle Colombo main road, by the side of the Kalu river, South to the Kalutara city.
